Highways and Interstates
Nash County is uniquely located with easy access to the eastern seaboard by way of Interstate 95, Future I-87 and US 264. Future I-87 (also known as US 64) has undergone improvements to interstate standards in an effort to increase accessibility to Norfolk, VA. This provides convenient access from Nash County to regions like the Research Triangle and major port cities.
The railroad system in Nash County plays an integral part in business development and accessibility for logistics companies that have chosen to locate here. Carolina Coastal Rail provides services to many businesses in the areas of Spring Hope, Nashville, Bailey and Middlesex; connecting them to CSX transportation rail lines. CSX Transportation provides a global network of opportunity connecting Whitakers, Rocky Mount and Sharpsburg with the rest of the East Coast. Amtrak services are also available along this rail with a passenger station located in the heart of Historic Downtown Rocky Mount.
The CSX Carolina Connector Intermodal Facility (CCX) is currently under construction in Rocky Mount. The CCX terminal will feature three wide-span, zero emission electric cranes with a lift capacity of 110,000 containers per year. This will be a state of the art facility featuring completely automatic operations. Locating in Nash County in close proximity to this facility will allow businesses access to over five million consumers within a 120-mile radius. Operations at CCX are expected to begin in late 2020.
Raleigh-Durham International Airport is a 50-minute drive from Nashville. RDU offers over 400 flights daily on nine different airlines and many of these are non-stop destinations. Ranked by J.D. Power as a Top 5 Large Airport, RDU offers excellent travel options for business and leisure passengers.
Rocky Mount-Wilson Regional Airport (RWI) is located in Rocky Mount along HWY 97, five miles from Interstate 95, and features a 7,100 ft. runway for private and commercial business airlines.
Nash County’s location along I-95 and I-87 offer convenient access to three major seaports in less than a 3-hour drive to Norfolk Virginia; Wilmington, North Carolina; and Morehead City, North Carolina.
